• April was National Poetry Month. Lihu‘e Public Library hosted the Garden Island Poetry Contest, challenging poets to write a chant. Remaining prize-winners will have their poems published over the next two weeks.
Bailee McCune, awardee in the teen division, was recognized for her poem “Peace’s Dream.”
Peace’s Dream
I dream that one day,
This world will change its ways.
Blowing great winds of love,
Just like the bustling storms above.
I dream that someday,
Wars and fighting will end.
Disconnected enemies and foes,
Will reunite and become everlasting friends.
I dream that everywhere I look,
People will be killed with kindness.
A happy ending of a fairytale in a book,
The rudeness, racism, mocking on a less.
Yes, this is my dream
The world working together as a big, happy team
Peace, peace, peace is what the
World needs.
