KALAHEO — Casey Anacleto fired 15 points to lead Kaulupono to a 54-19 win over Waimea Saturday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
The win served to hone the Kaulupono girls for an upcoming Mainland trip where they will be playing basketball, said coach Bobby Kamakele.
In the second match of the Saturday doubleheader, the Kaua‘i Ballers A, playing without the services of four of its players, got eight points from Shai-Anne Abigania in a 20-14 edge over the Kaua‘i Ballers B.
Friday night, the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association hosted the 12 and Under girls summer league where Schae-Marie Tavita came up with 10 points to give Kaulupono 12U a 21-20 edge over Lihu‘e, who was led by Malyssa Manera tipping in a game-high dozen points.
Tiana Apilado ended the night with 11 points to lead Westside Basketball to a 26-14 showing over the Kamikaze, who got six points apiece from Kalia Shimabukuro and Ashley Lucas.
Jasabelle Cudanes added six points to help the Westside win.
Drawing on 10 points from Nicole Palacio and another six points from Kaohelauli‘i, Kaulupono quickly outdistanced Waimea, 24-6 in the first period.
From that point, the Kaulupono blueshirts never looked back, playing hard throughout four quarters with Palacio ending with 11 points, including a 1-2 showing at the charity line in the third quarter.
Taylor Gaspar, a strong guard for Kaulupono, worked the courts for nine second-half points followed by Kaohelauli‘i getting eight points.
Guard Jullynn Ramos ended the day with five points, including a three-ball in the opening period, Asia Yasay netted four second quarter points, Nicolei Banasihan, another strong guard moving the ball through traffic, added three points in the final quarter and a digit from Jenaiah Banasihan rounded out the win.
Caitlyn-Amber Owen paced the Waimea effort with nine points, seven coming in the final quarter where she launched a bomb from outside the three-point circle, and Brandee Burton added three points. Jofferlyn Perpose, Samantha Apilado and Jaeda Ayon each finished with pairs and a digit from Tiana Apilado rounded out the effort.
Following the lead of Abigania, Meleane Moala drove strong to the inside, finishing with six points for the Kaua‘i Ballers A. Lele Hanie, working the ball through tight inside defense, finished with four points and a pair from Violet Martin rounded out the win.
Guard Ariel Cummings paced the Kaua‘i Ballers B effort with eight points. Shy Anne Almarza, Kristen Yam and low post Sierra Shigematsu marked pairs in the effort.
The KYBA 12 Under girls take the floor tonight (MON) when the Kamikaze host Lihu‘e starting at 6 p.m. followed by Kaulupono hosting the Kaua‘i Ballers at 7 p.m.
Tuesday night, the 14 Under boys take the floor when Hanakila A takes on Westside Basketball starting at 6 p.m. followed by Hanakila B matching up against the Kaua‘i Ballers starting at 7 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
