LIHU‘E — The Mayor’s Walking Workbus, an initiative sponsored by the county and Get Fit Kaua‘i: the Nutrition and Physical Activity Coalition of Kaua‘i, is scheduled to start up again today, a county news release says.
Launched last year, the weekly summer program offers the public a chance to talk story with Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. while engaged in a healthy activity.
“Walking offers so many health benefits,” said the mayor. “I encourage everyone to join me for this weekly activity. This is also a perfect opportunity to prepare for the Mayor-a-thon on June 26 and the Kaua‘i Marathon on Sept. 5.”
The walk is scheduled every Tuesday through the end of August. It begins at 11:45 a.m. at the Mo‘ikeha Building courtyard, with pick-up points at Bank of Hawai‘i, the Lihu‘e Post Office, First Hawaiian Bank, Kaua‘i Toyota, Rice Shopping Center and Ace Hardware.
Anyone who would like to participate in the Mayor’s Walking Workbus should wear good walking shoes, use sunscreen, bring water, and obey all traffic signals along the route. Wearing a hat is optional.
To request an auxiliary aid or additional support to participate in the walk, please call Christina Pilkington at 241-6203 before the event.
