LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Hospice’s annual Concert in the Sky will undergo a few changes in 2010, a news release states.
Kaua‘i Hospice Board of Directors and Concert in the Sky committee members agreed that, while there is a strong commitment to continue hosting this island-wide celebration for Kaua‘i residents and visitors, the event is really more of a “friend-raiser” than a profitable fundraiser.
“For 27 years, we’ve received unwavering support and generosity from this incredible island community. It’s overwhelming,” said Lori Miller, executive director of Kaua‘i Hospice, in the news release. “The July 4th Concert in the Sky is our opportunity to express our deep appreciation to the community for their time, resources, faith and trust. It’s that unwavering support which allows Kaua‘i Hospice to continue providing the people of Kaua‘i with compassionate, comprehensive end-of-life care.”
More than 700 volunteers, including the Hawai‘i Firefighters Association, provide over 3,500 hours to this annual Independence Day celebration, which would not be possible without the generous support of numerous event sponsors. Last year’s Concert in the Sky drew over 6,500 attendees.
The 21st annual Concert in the Sky will take place at Vidinha Soccer Field in Lihu‘e and feature food, fun and games for the entire family. Live entertainment featuring John Cruz runs from 4 to 9:30 p.m. with Kaua‘i’s largest aerial fireworks show as the finale. A drawing for a trip to Las Vegas, a beautiful handmade quilt from the No Nene Quilt Group, and other items will be offered along with ono grinds from Kaua‘i’s top resorts and restaurants. Free patriotic face painting, massage and Healing Touch are included in the price of admission, the release says.
Advanced tickets are $10 for adults; $5 for keiki ages 6 to 12; keiki under 5 are free. Tickets are available now through July 3 at all Big Save Markets and Menehune Food Marts. Gates open at 4 p.m. on July 4. Adult tickets are $15 and keiki ages 6 to 12 are $7 at the gate.
