LIHU‘E — The fee for a traffic abstract will increase from $7 to $20 on July 1, states a state Judiciary release.
Traffic abstracts are an individual driver’s record of alleged citations and administrative license revocations, and are oftentimes required when applying for jobs involving driving.
The state Judiciary has been charging $7 for a certified traffic abstract since 1996, of which $5 is deposited into the state general fund and $2 into the Judiciary Computer Special Fund.
In accordance with a measure passed by the 2010 state Legislature raising the fee, $18 will be deposited into the general fund and $2 will continue to go into the Judiciary Computer Special Fund, the release states.
The Judiciary anticipates that, during this fiscal year, it will generate about 500,000 traffic abstracts. With the $13 increase in the traffic abstract fee, an additional $6.5 million could be added to the general fund.
Certified traffic abstracts report all alleged moving violations and any resulting convictions arising from the operation of a motor vehicle and any administrative license revocation.
Traffic abstracts are available at the district courts on all islands and are usually requested for insurance purposes, the release states.
