Raymond Silva
Raymond Silva of Hanama‘ulu died July 19, 2010, at his home at age 78. Born on April 28, 1932, in Hanama‘ulu, he retired from Lihu‘e Plantation as a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his wife Alice Vidinha Silva; parents Frank and Virginia Silva; sister Gladys Routh; brother Jerry Silva; and great-grandson Kahoku O‘Mana O‘lo Silva.
He is survived by his daughter Wendy (Jason) Shimabukuro of Kapa‘a; sons Derek (Pua) Silva of Kapa‘a, Robby (Lana) Silva and Don Silva of Hanama‘ulu; brother Ronald (Janet) Silva; sisters Ida Porteous, Mary Jane Lake and Charolette Lum; grandchildren Alicia (Andrew) Lagundino, John (Shieryl) Silva, Justin (Marisa) Silva, Jaylynn, Jaysie and Jaynna Shimabukuro, Tiana (Gino) Silva, Robby (Nicole) Silva Jr., Shyann (Jonah) Silva, Aaron Naumo-Silva, Kawaikea Silva; great-grandchildren Ganen, Racen, Po‘okela, Kamanu, Kaiea, Cleonie, Salef; numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, June 27, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8 to 9 a.m., and Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
Casual attire is suggested.

Joseph Arruda Jr.
Joseph “Sonny” Andrew Arruda Jr. of Kapa‘a died July 14, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 80. Born on Aug. 21, 1929, in Kapa‘a, he was a retired lieutenant with the Kaua‘i Police Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Mary Arruda Sr.; brother Jordan Arruda; sisters Marie Arruda and Rosalani Arruda; and daughter Diana Javier.
He is survived by his wife Lillian Arruda; daughters Gloria (Russell) Yee, Mary Moran, Vicky Koga and Carrie (Greg) Kanelis; son Joseph (Juli) Arruda III; brother Donald Arruda; sister Theresa (James) Fune; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation at 8:30 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m., on Friday, July 30, at St. Catherine Church in Kapa‘a. Burial to follow at St. Catherine Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested.

Matsue Furutani
Matsue Nakaya Furutani of Makaweli, Kaua‘i, died July 15, 2010, at age 93. Born on June 8, 1917, in Makaweli, Kaua‘i, she was a retired housekeeper for the late Selwyn Robinson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Takeshi “Punchy” Furutani; parents Ensaburo and Kane (Yamamoto) Nakaya; siblings Choshi (Mitsuyo Yokoyama) Nakaya, Takeo (Helen Koga) Nakaya, Asato (Tsukie Matsumoto) Nakaya, Kazue Nakaya, Memeyo (Tameyoshi) Takaki, Yoshiko (Sakae) Osaki, Masako “Alice” (Elmer) Olson and Kikue (Tamotsu) Kunishige.
She is survived by her daughter Edith (Hamid) Shams of New Jersey; sons Henry (Rachel Maeda) Furutani of Lihu‘e and Carl (Laurie Kamishita) Furutani of Kane‘ohe; six grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation at 2 p.m., service at 3 p.m., on Sunday, Aug. 1, at Waimea Honpa Hongwanji.
Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted.

Kay Nakashima
Kay Yayoi Nakashima of Hanapepe Cliffside died July 14, 2010, at her home at age 82.
Born on Sept. 30, 1927, in Yokohama, Japan, she was a Japanese tour greeter with Kaua‘i Island Tours.
She is survived by her husband Clarence Nakashima; daughter Janice Smith of Kailua, O‘ahu; two grandchildren; sisters Hisae and Sumie, both of Japan; nieces and nephews.
Services were private. Family requests no flowers and no koden. Donations may be made to Kaua‘i Hospice.

Yoshito Kawakami
Yoshito Kawakami of Lawa‘i died July 10, 2010, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at age 87.
Born on June 18, 1923, in Kalaheo, he was a carpentry instructor at Kaua‘i Community College.
He is survived by his wife Linda; sons Jay of Mililani and Alvin of Lawa‘i; daughter Lynell of Lawa‘i; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services were private.
