LIHU‘E — University of Hawai‘i golfer T.J. Kua, of Lihu‘e, ran away with the first-place trophy at the inaugural Prince Invitational golf tournament at the Prince Golf Course, July 24-25.
Kua shot a 69 on the first day to lead the field, then followed that up with a 66 on the second day for a gross score of 9-under par 135, a full six strokes ahead of second-place finisher Ron Castillo Jr., of Lihu‘e.
His net score of 127 shattered the rest of the competition’s efforts in the Championship flight, including a number of top golfers from around the state.
Paul Glen from O‘ahu’s Mid Pacific Country Club was crowned champion of flight A with a two-day total of 160.
Kilauea’s Steve Mickel won the B flight with a two-round score of 161.
Lihu‘e’s Sharron Weber was the victor in the Ladies flight, scoring a 178 in her two rounds.
Lance Taketa, of Hilo, Mark Morrison, of Hulualoa, and Shannon Sibayan, of Lihu‘e, rounded out the top five spots of the Championship flight with scores of 144, 145 and 147, respectively.
