LIHU‘E — Alexander Texeira, 22, of Kilauea, early Friday morning became the 10th person to die in traffic accidents on the island this year.
He apparently lost control of his truck on Kuhio Highway near Kalihi Wai, the vehicle flipped several times and Texeira was ejected from the vehicle, states a county press release.
Texeira was pronounced dead at Wilcox Memorial Hospital following the crash that occurred around 12:35 a.m. Friday.
The Kaua‘i Police Department preliminary report states Texeira was traveling north on the highway near the 25-mile marker, his truck left the roadway, climbed an embankment and flipped over several times before coming to a stop.
Apparently not wearing his seat belt, Texeira was thrown from the truck, the release states. He was the only person in the vehicle.
American Medical Response professionals rendered aid to Texeira on the scene, then transported him to the hospital, the county release states.
The highway was closed for around four hours during the KPD investigation.
There were six traffic fatalities at this time last year.
