LIHU‘E —Jennifer Irving is no stranger to lines on Kaua‘i, waiting in two long lines in two days.
“I went to pick up an iPhone, Tuesday, and when I got there at 7 a.m. they told me it was all sold-out,” said Irving, who was accompanying her niece Hayley Walcher and Emily Post on Wednesday at Kukui Grove Cinema. “Today, we’re celebrating Hayley’s 15th birthday and waiting for the movie to start.”
The Irving party arrived at the Lihu‘e movie theater at 10 a.m., and were already 116th in the line of fans waiting for the Kaua‘i premiere of “Eclipse,” the latest film in the “Twilight” saga.
“We came for ‘New Moon,’ but were 270 in the line,” Irving said. “At least we’re 116 this time.”
Diamond Leoso was also celebrating her 15th birthday, arriving with her friends from the beach for the afternoon debut of the film.
“I know (Hayley),” Leoso said. “We go to the same school. We’ve seen all of the films, and I read all the books. When I grow up, I’m going to be an actress because my uncle delivers all the Caribbean stuff — he even delivered some stuff to Johnny Depp.”
Sheena and Steven Galbraith arrived at Kukui Grove Cinema at 8:45 p.m., Tuesday, to secure the first places in line for the movie.
“We knew other people would be coming early, but we wanted to be first so we knew we had to come early,” Sheena said. “We were first at ‘New Moon,’ and we’re first for ‘Eclipse.’ We saw the first movie, but we weren’t into it like we are now.”
Sheena said the movie theater people have been really nice, allowing them to use the restrooms and making sure they were alright before leaving from the last showing, Tuesday.
She clutched an “Eclipse” crown, noting that there are a lot of other movie-related paraphernalia surrounding its release.
“They have T-shirts, a chest, necklace and even keychains at Border’s,” Sheena said. “They even have dolls for all the characters at Walmart.”
Italian Vanessa Kight said spending part of a vacation in a parking lot party was not that bad since the people she talked to back home were upset that she was so close to watching the film. She said they have to wait for a few weeks after the movie is released here before it reaches Italy.
A complete listing of show times for the movie can be found on the Kukui Grove Cinema website at www.kukuigrovecinema.com, or by calling 245-5055.
The theater complex will be closed on Sunday.
