LIHU‘E — The University of Hawai‘i Athletic Department has launched a new website to promote its All-American receiver and Fred Biletnikoff Award candidate Greg Salas.
CatchGregSalas.com features a highlight video, bio, statistics, photo gallery, and other information about the senior slot receiver for the Warriors.
The website will be updated throughout the season with game highlights and game-by-game stats. In addition, the Media Relations Office will send out weekly updates to select media members and Biletnikoff Award voters.
Salas, a preseason All-American by several publications, was a first-team all-Western Athletic Conference pick a year ago and selected to the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation’s top receiver.
He was named to Phil Steele’s All-America fourth team and honorable mention by SI.com after finishing fourth nationally in receiving yards per game (122.3) and sixth in receptions per game (8.15), both of which led the WAC.
He tallied 100-plus yards receiving in eight games and had a team-high 106 catches for 1,590 yards and eight touchdowns on the year. The 1,590 receiving yards is the second-highest single-season total in school history and Salas is one of only four players to reach 100 catches in a season.
Salas enters the 2010 season having caught a pass in 27 straight games dating back to 2008.
The last Warrior selected as a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award was Chad Owens in 2004, however, several others were named to the watch list, most notably Davone Bess, Ryan Grice-Mullen, and Ashley Lelie.
