LIHU‘E — A 900-square-foot, single-story wooden home at the corner of Kane and Ali‘i roads in Hanapepe was damaged by fire Tuesday morning, county officials said.
No one was injured in the fire and no other structures were threatened, a news release states. Damage to the home is estimated at $250,000. The value of its contents has not yet been determined.
Kaua‘i Red Cross volunteers responded to the fire, meeting with affected residents to ensure their immediate emergency needs are met. Caseworkers will continue to follow up, a news release states.
A dozen firefighters and four rescue specialists from the Lihu‘e, Hanapepe, Kalaheo and Waimea stations responded to the 9:30 a.m. alarm.
The fire was deemed under control at 9:50 a.m. and fully extinguished at 10:20 a.m., the release says.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
