ANAHOLA — A crash between an SUV and a motorcycle Friday night on Kuhio Highway in Anahola resulted in a man being airlifted to Queen’s Medical Center with serious injuries, county spokeswoman Beth Tokioka said Saturday.
Alan Gonsalves, 45, of Lihu‘e, suffered two broken legs, a fractured pelvis and internal injuries, but his injuries are not life-threatening, she said.
He was traveling northbound on Kuhio Highway making a left turn onto Ioane Street when the SUV, driven by 18-year-old Erik Danner, turned right from Ioane Street onto Kuhio Highway in the southbound direction and struck the motorcycle.
The crash was reported to KPD Dispatch at 8:11 p.m., and Kuhio Highway was closed for more than three hours. Traffic was diverted around the accident via Kealia Road while the highway was closed.
Police do not believe speed was a factor but are investigating whether alcohol may have played a role in this crash.
No arrests have been made, Tokioka said.
