LIHU‘E — The county Planning Commission on Tuesday approved a request to build a shelter by an existing bus stop in front of the Kapa‘a Neighborhood Center.
“For those who use the bus as a means of transportation, the Kapa‘a Neighborhood Center functions as a complex site, housing various programs for our community,” Parks and Recreations Director Lenny Rapozo said.
The department has been working in partnership with the Transportation Agency to add the shelter. The bus stop provides accessibility to the neighborhood center, plus the public swimming pool and various businesses in the area, Rapozo said.
The shelter will be equipped with a boarding platform that meets the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. The stop currently originates 300 monthly trips, according to the Planning Department staff report.
The neighborhood center is located by Kou Street in the north end of Kapa‘a Town.
The shelter is expected to be 7 feet, 6 inches tall with a base measuring 19 feet by 8 feet.
