PO‘IPU — A bomb threat forced Kukui‘ula Shopping Village to close briefly this afternoon, county spokeswoman Mary Daubert said.
Authorities conducted a comprehensive search and found nothing, she said.
The South Shore shopping center’s security received the call around 3:45 p.m., according to Veronica Lovesy, senior marketing manager for Kukui‘ula Shopping Village.
The merchants were subsequently directed to close down their stores and shoppers were escorted off the property, she said.
The search was completed by 5 p.m. and most stores had reopened a half hour later, Lovesy said.
“We weren’t going to take any chances,” she said, regarding the decision to temporarily shut down the shopping center. “We’re grateful for the Kaua‘i Police Department and how quick they were able to assist us.”
There was no official word on the source of the call at press time.
