PO‘IPU — Festive white lanterns dancing in the brisk tradewinds silently beckoned shoppers.
A sign, crisply lettered in contemporary fonts, said, “It’s our birthday.”
A smile blossoms as the door is pushed open and the journey through a world of modern island living begins.
Lisa Leggett is the designer and owner of Bungalow 9, which celebrated its first birthday on Aug. 21, coinciding with the Kukui‘ula Shopping Village’s one-year anniversary celebration where the contemporary home furnishing shop is located.
“We got the early start,” Leggett said. “We have specials throughout the day, but the shopping center won’t start their program until later in the day.”
On tap for the center’s celebration were hula from the dancers of Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala, recent participants in the 35th Annual Queen Lili‘uokalani Children’s Hula Competition, the Aloha Dance Studio, birthday cake and drawings for numerous prizes including the grand prize of two nights at Koa Kea Hotel and Resort, a $100 gift certificate to Merriman’s Kaua‘i and a $100 gift certificate to Josselin’s Tapas Bar and Grill. She added that a wine tasting by one of the art galleries was also scheduled for later in the evening.
Leggett said Bungalow 9 offers the theme of modern island living in home furnishings, lighting, accessories and apparel.
“The main focus is design,” she said. “This first year has been wonderful, and we appreciate the support of both our island residents and visitors. Happy birthday to us!”
