KEKAHA – Approximately 25 acres of state land burned this afternoon in a brushfire that broke out at around 2:14 p.m. off Kekaha Road near mile marker four, a county news release states.
Fire fighters remain at the scene and are putting out hotspots.
No one has been injured and no structures were threatened.
Engine 7, Truck 7, Engine 6, Truck 6, Truck 5, Rescue 3 and Air 1responded to the fire. In addition, two county water tankers, one Gay & Robinson water tanker and several state fire fighters provided assistance.
Following the outbreak of the fire, Kaua’i police closed a portion of Kekaha Rd., and redirected traffic to and from Koke’e to Waimea Canyon Drive.
The fire was deemed under control at 3:43 p.m., the release says.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
With the dry season here, fire officials are asking residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution.
Fire prevention tips offered by the Kaua’i Fire Department include:
— Don’t throw lighted cigarettes out of a car window.
— Don’t park your vehicle on dry grass.
— Never leave a fire unattended, i.e. campfires and backyard burning.
