HANAPEPE — Ikaika Piceno picked up two touchdowns to lead the West O‘ahu Hammerheads to a 44-0 win over the Kaua‘i Bulldogs, Saturday night at Hanapepe Stadium.
The win completes the Kaua‘i tour for the Hammerheads who finished the tour by scoring a total of 85 points while not allowing a single score to the Kapa‘a Na Koa, Friday, and the Kaua‘i Bulldogs, Saturday.
Hammerhead quarterback Jerome Masiclat piloted the squad to a pair of first quarter scores, the Hammerhead adding three more TDs in the second period and one in the third period en route to the win.
Masiclat opened the action with a breakout 70-plus yard score midway in the opening period and with just 14 seconds remaining in the quarter, found Jayce Bantolina in the end zone on a 62-yard pass play.
Josiah Mageo, picking up two TDs against Na Koa, opened the second quarter on a 69-yard breakout. Isaiah Gibson did the point-after honors for a 22-0 bulge with 9:03 showing.
Piceno took a quick handoff from Masiclat at the midway point and peeled off 77 yards down the rightside for a TD at the 5:51 mark for the 28-0 reading.
Gibson did the scoring at the 3:03 mark on an 11-yard charge through traffic. Piceno took a double reverse on the point-after for the 36-0 lead at the half, the clock kicking into running time mode.
Piceno iced the victory in the third quarter by taking a pitchout from Masiclat and scampered 22 yards into the end zone at the 6:16 mark. Mageo did the point-after honors for the 44-0 reading.
But the Bulldogs were not to be denied as Jhustin Balisacan took the kickoff and ran it back about 75 yards for a score that was called back on a clipping infraction.
Lanakila Wilson, whose older brother will see action, Friday, for Kaua‘i High School, served as the quarterback, working with Keli‘i Efhan to move the ball against a quick Hammerhead defense.
That defense came up with two critical Wilson interceptions, one being taken by Matthew Solo in the end zone to prevent a Bulldog score and another by Piceno.
During Friday night’s encounter with Na Koa, the Hammerheads also picked off two passes, both for scores in the second period.
Registration for Intermediate football and cheer is still going on, according to the KYF website.
