LIHU‘E — At approximately 6:30 p.m., the Kaua’i Fire Department extinguished a blaze that scorched approximately 1.5 acres of brush in Niumalu, a county news release states.
The fire was apparently a rekindling of one that broke out yesterday afternoon and burned roughly 5 acres in the same vicinity.
Today’s effort involved the Lihu’e, Kapa’a and Kalaheo stations, along with helicopter support from Air One. The fire was in an area adjacent to hole 14 at Puakea Golf Course. Air-1 used water from a golf course reservoir to drop on the blaze throughout the afternoon. The golf course remained open throughout the day.
The cause of the fires is unknown, however KFD does not believe they were maliciously set. Both fires occurred on land owned by Grove Farm Company.
Because conditions on Kaua’i are extremely dry, the public is asked to use caution at all times to avoid unintentially setting brush fires.
