Congratulations to Kalani Vierra and his Kaua‘i Junior Lifeguard program staff for capturing the state title for the seventh time, Saturday!
Uncle John Kaneholani (Yukie DeSilva was on O‘ahu for the Kalani football game!) did a great job on the microphone and Jim Jung and Ann Leighton from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary were on hand to watch the action.
Mahalo to Jaime Arreola and the Duke’s staff for the lunch grinds for all the Junior Lifeguard people!
More kudos to Diane Kent and her Koloa Hongwanji (now called West Kaua‘i Hongwanji) on the great crowd at the bon dance, Friday night. Even Ross Shimabukuro’s aunt was there.
Dean Okayama had a great vantage point for the sunset, and Tammy Pu‘u said the last KAGRA rodeo was Sunday… you just never know what kind of tidbits you pick up at the bon dance.
Herbert Miyazaki said Reynold had back problems so couldn’t help with the mochi pounding, but a lot of the Miyazaki family was on hand to honor the memory of Sueno Miyazaki at the bon dance.
Ted Inouye came to offer his best wishes because he said unfortunately, this is the last time we’ll enjoy bon dance at this temple.
