LIHU‘E — Imagine going to a hospital for a routine mammogram and being offered spa robe rather than a paper gown open in the back, a dressing room rather than an examining room to change in, flat screen televisions rather than expired magazines, and pink mints and a pink rose when you’re done.
That’s what Wilcox Memorial Hospital plans to offer patients at their new Women’s Center, which will officially open its doors Monday after three years of planning and fundraising.
Wilcox invites the community to join them in celebrating their grand opening with entertainment and refreshments on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the lobby of the hospital.
The new facility houses all of the hospital’s imaging services, such as digital mammography, ultrasound, bone density and fetal diagnostics.
“All of the imaging was all over the hospital,” Wilcox CEO Kathy Clark said. “The Women’s Center has taken it all. We now have a place that is more private, as well as plush.”
The $1.8 million project is a renovation of what used to be the hospital’s outpatient surgical and recovery area, which moved to a new surgical suite completed in 2006.
The wing has been transformed into a lobby with a flat screen television and computer for research, a massage room, a tech center, a private waiting and dressing area, an examination room, revamped offices for visiting physicians and, of course, digital screening rooms.
Appointments are offered from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. They’re currently taking patients and are already booked out through December.
