Waimea High School girls volleyball team start its bid for the 2010 New City Nissan Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association, Division II state title, Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Menehune, under the coaching of Chad Delanoza, will represent the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation at the state tournament after clinching the KIF championship in a playoff against Kaua‘i High School last Monday night.
Waimea will open the Division II competition against the Kalaheo Mustangs in a 7 p.m. game at McKinley High School gym.
Should the Menehune advance against the Mustangs, it will face top seeded University High, Thursday in a 7 p.m. match, also at McKinley.
Following University, Molokai gets the second seed, playing the winner of the St. Francis/Ka‘u High School opener.
The Roosevelt Rough Riders get the third seed in Division II with Hawai‘i Preparatory Academy getting the fourth seed.
Other teams in the Division II tournament include Seabury, Leilehua, Hawai‘i Baptist and Honoka‘a high schools.
Punahou gets the top seed for the Division I followed by Kamehameha Schools-Maui getting the No. 2 seed.
Kahuku is the No. 3 seed for Division I with Kamehameha Schools-Big Island getting the No. 4 seed.
Teams in the Division I tournament include King Kekaulike, Moanalua, Mililani, Kaiser, Waiakea, Castle, Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama and Pearl City high schools.
