The Lady Menehune topped Seabury Hall by a 2-0 count (25-21, 25-16) to continue playing at the New City Nissan/HHSAA Div. II Girls Volleyball State Championships, Thursday at McKinley High School on O‘ahu.
Senior Jayme Jacinto was again the squad’s top hitter with 11 kills.
Brandee Victorino and Tatiana Rita each had six kills and two blocks, while Vakeesha Lagazo notched two aces.
The victory now puts Waimea into the final game of the consolation bracket, where it will take on Ka‘u High School.
Waimea was knocked out of the main draw of the championship tournament on Wednesday in a tight five-set match against Kalaheo. The Lady Menehune lost a 25-22, 16-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-13 final in the first round.
Ka‘u, having also lost its first round match on Wednesday, beat Honoka‘a 2-0 (25-21, 25-14) to advance to take on Waimea.
The Ka‘u-Waimea contest will essentially be for seventh place in Div. II and will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday at McKinley High School.
In the Div. II main draw quarterfinals, Leilehua notched a thrilling 3-2 win over No. 4 Hawai‘i Prep (26-24, 22-25, 25-23, 9-25, 17-15). Ashlee Vaoifi was the top hitter with 26 kills for Leilehua, while Leeta Grap led HPA with 19.
It will now take on No. 1 University in the semifinals, which got a 3-1 win over Kalaheo (25-27, 25-21, 25-13, 25-9).
No. 2 Molokai was a 3-0 winnver over St. Francis (25-16, 25-13, 25-19) to punch its ticket to the semifinals.
Molokai will take on the winner of the Hawai‘i Baptist-No. 3 Roosevelt match, which was still in progress at press time.
In Div. 1, the semifinals are set and only one of the four seeded teams remains.
No. 1 Punahou was a 3-0 winner over Mililani (25-21, 25-11, 25-20) and will now take on Kaiser, which eliminated No. 4 Kamehameha-Big Island by a 3-2 count (25-23, 17-25, 25-18, 25-19, 15-12).
Waiakea did away with No. 2 Kamehameha-Maui, 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-14) and will now face Kamehameha-Kapalama, which took out No. 3 Kahuku, 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-10, 28-26).
