LIHU‘E — Competing in the Billy Tees/HHSAA Bowling State Championships in familiar territory, the Kaua‘i Red Raider Wahine squad sat in second place after the first round of the event at Lihu‘e Lanes.
After three games of a scheduled nine, Kaua‘i had a team total of 2,431, which place the Raiders second among the eight girls teams participating.
Darcie Vea led the way with a 553 series (189-204-160), followed closely by Kelsey Cadiente’s 543 (194-158-191).
Jorden De Costa rolled a 486 (130-220-136), Malia Garcia had a 460 (143-129-188) and Alisa Padasdgo scored a 389 (154-126-109).
In first after the three games was the Kapolei squad with a 2,625 total, led by overall leader Shaianne Yockman’s 592 (190-194-208).
Results from the first six of nine games on the boys’ side were available at press time, with Kaua‘i’s Tevin Nakashima sitting in fourth place with a pinfall of 1,221. Nakashima followed up a 577 series (203-155-219) with a 644 (228-225-191).
Waimea’s Chase Ueno was right behind in fifth place with a 1,200 even total. He followed a solid 542 (198-176-168) with a huge 658 (234-205-219).
Kaua‘i’s John Quisel put together a 1,069 total for the day, followed by teammates Ammon Hoopii Akau (956) and Kyle Balisacan.
The Kaua‘i boys sit in seventh place of the eight teams with three games remaining. They combined for a 4,950 pin total Thursday.
Kailua’s Austin Patacsil took a big lead in the individual standings, finishing the day with 1,356 pins. He went over 200 in his first five games with a high of 259, before closing the day with a 193.
Mililani leads the team standings with a 5,690 total, followed closely by Pearl City (5,653). HBA (5,391), Kalani (5,296), Baldwin (5,132), Iolani (5,099) and Waiakea (4,907) round out the field.
The event will conclude today in Lihu‘e, with the boys and girls championships determined and the awards ceremony to follow the action.
