Vicente Lagoc
Vicente Curammeng Lagoc of Kaumakani died Sept. 26, 2010, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 84. Born on April 26, 1926, in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a WWII Army veteran and a research worker at Pioneer Hi-Bred.
He was preceded in death by parents Mariano and Victoria C. Lagoc, brothers Inocencio (Nieves) Lagoc, Juan (Mercedes) Lagoc and Victoriano (Cristina) Lagoc; and sisters Enriqueta (Segundo) Corcoro, Leonarda (Ciano) Corcoro, Remedios (Irinio) Menor and Rosario (Bantor) Sacro.
He is survived by his wife Rosa Caldoza Lagoc; son Vicmar (Marites) Lagoc and Adonis (Shulamite) Lagoc; daughter Rowena Lagoc (Ferdinand) Antonio; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery pavilion in Hanapepe, with service at 10 a.m. and burial to follow.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
George Smith
George W. Smith, M.D., died in the early hours of Sept. 16 at his home on O‘ahu at age 83.
He was a practicing physician for over 40 years in California and on the Kwajalein atoll in the Marshall Islands. He retired to Kaua‘i in 1990 and resided there until moving to O‘ahu in 2002.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Julia; sons, Christian (Jan) of Kuliouou, Douglas of Manoa and Brent (Diane) of Dana Point; granddaughters, Julie of Kuliouou and Stephanie of Kilauea; grandson, Karl of Dana Point; and great-grandson, Nihoa of Kilauea.
His ashes were scattered at sea off Kawaihoa in O‘ahu.
Fendel Oclit
Fendel Pali “Ding” Oclit of Kapa‘a died Sept. 14, 2010, at his beach home in Kapa‘a at age 73. Born Sept. 29, 1936, in Kona, he was a retired contractor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Oclit; sons Fendel Oclit and Kimo Kaneakua.
He is survived by his four sons, Keoua (Laure) Kaneakua, Jimmy Yap, Jonathan (Marlene) Oclit and Dean Oclit of Arizona; three daughters, Ginger (Chuck) Kaneakua, Donna (Bobby) Hoopii, Franque (Brian) Oclit; companion, Marlin Cummings and her two children, Albert Cummings Jr. (Rene) and Sherry Carrigan (Jeff); brother, David Sotelo; sisters, Lena (Dennis) Rutledge, Terrylnn Sotelo, Loretta Sotelo; 42 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Oct. 8, at Kapa‘a First Hawaiian Church from 8 to 10:45 a.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 9. Scattering of ashes will be at noon at the family beach house, 4466 Kukui St., Kapa‘a. Call Ginger Kaneakua at 756-7212 with questions.

Tsuruye Nishi
Tsuruye Nishi of Numila Camp died Aug. 30, 2010, at Garden Isle HealthCare at age 90. Born on June 27, 1920, in Lihu‘e, she worked at Up To Date Cleaners.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Elsie Nishi.
She is survived by her husband, Shigekazu Nishi; sons, Robert (Rosemary) Nishi and James Nishi, both of Honolulu, and Wayne (Lorna) Nishi of Kapa‘a; daughter, Janet (Bob) Kagihara of Honolulu; brother, Hideko Sasaki (Michie) of Lihu‘e; sisters, Akio Matsuyama of Lihu‘e and Momoe Sato (Raymond) of Honolulu; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were private. Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
