WAILUA — The Society for Hawaiian Archaeology invites the public to its 24th annual SHA Conference, Oct. 15-17, at the Aston Aloha Beach Hotel in Wailua, a news release states.
There will be professional presentations by some of the leading anthropologists and archaeologists in the Pacific region, the release says. Current cutting-edge anthropological research projects conducted within Hawai‘i, East Polynesia, and Micronesia will be highlighted, as well as several student papers. Posters and displays are encouraged and will be exhibited.
There will be a public keynote address Friday evening by Dr. Patrick V. Kirch entitled “When did the Polynesians Discover Hawai‘i?” There will also be a presentation of the 1st Hawai‘i Cultural Stewardship Award.
A lu‘au with entertainment is scheduled for Saturday evening, and Saturday/Sunday will host sessions of oral presentations. The conference sessions are open to the general public for a registration fee. Several complimentary session seats are reserved exclusively for the community.
