Hats off to the Kaua‘i High School girls volleyball team for those pink ribbons at their Senior Night, Friday.
Coach Merrill Carvalho’s wife Michelle said the girls wore the ribbons in support of the American Cancer Society breast cancer fight. In addition to the ribbons which they’ve sported for the entire month, they created special fans which spectators could donate for and the proceeds turned over to Millie Curtis, the mom of one of its players, who in turn got the donation to the ACS.
Similarly, the Island School girls have been sporting pink T-shirts during their warmups as a symbol of their fight against cancer.
Kudos to Spence Nonaka for being selected as this year’s OfficeMax A Day Made Better special teacher. It was pretty cool watching the presentation with the Kaua‘i Fire Department in the background.
Toni Morath (soccer clinic coming, Dec. 5) is bummed about the closing of the Princeville Health Center, but thrilled that Kaua‘i Athletic Club is making them a nice offer so they can still be fit and trim.
OK, time to check out the volleyball playoffs at Kaua‘i High School gym, and don’t forget the governor and lieutenant governor forum tomorrow evening at the convention hall.
