LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce announced its upcoming October schedule will be open to the public, including two political events.
The Kaua‘i County Council Forum of the 14 candidates vying for the seven council seats will be Thursday at Kaua‘i Beach Resort.
The Forum will be moderated by Kurt Akamine, Government Affairs Committee co-chair, and Sandi Kato-Klutke, GAC member and chair, Hawai‘i Hotel & Lodging Association, Kaua‘i Chapter.
On Oct. 19, a governor and lieutenant governor debate of Democratic candidates Neil Abercrombie and Bryan Schatz and Republican candidates Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona and Lynn Finnegan will be held at the War Memorial Convention Hall and moderated by Ron Mizutani.
Mizutani is the anchor of FOX station KHON “News at 5.”
The forum and debate will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Both are free and open to the public. For more information, call the Chamber of Commerce at 245-7363 or visit www.kauaichamber.org.
These will be the final Chamber Government Affairs events prior to the general election on Nov. 2. As part of the Chamber’s commitment to providing accessibility of these political events to educate the public about each candidate’s position.
The events will be broadcast live via Hawai‘i Stream and FM97 radio.
The events will also be recorded live on radio stations KONG and KKCR, and will be available on KKCR’s website.
On Oct. 12, the next Business After Hours/Networking event is the launch of the Kaua‘i Grown program, which is a joint venture between the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau and the County of Kaua‘i to promote Kaua‘i’s farmers and ranchers who work only with Kaua‘i-grown ingredients.
Taking place at the Merriman’s Café in the Kuikui’ula Village Shopping Center from 5 to 7 p.m., the Kaua‘i Grown program is a branded marketing program for the promotion of Kaua‘i-grown products.

The evening will include an appetizer menu prepared by executive chef Kevin Ives and the culinary team at Merriman’s Café and Restaurant

The Kukui‘ula Village Shopping Center continues its weekly Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. It includes cooking demonstrations that are in partnership with the Kaua‘i County Farm Bureau.
The KCFB also sponsors a Saturday farmer’s market known as the Kaua‘i Community Market at Kaua‘i Community College from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
