Hanapepe Colts Pop Warner Association faces a critical weekend when it hosts Koloa, Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium.
The Colts’ Junior PeeWee squad, following its 24-13 win over the Lihu‘e Patriots last Saturday, are currently at the top of the standings with a 6-1 record and 12 points.
Saturday is the Colts’ final season game, and Koloa, currently 3-2-1 following its 0-0 tie against the Kapa‘a Eagles, Sunday, is at nine points with two games to play, including this Saturday’s match against the Colts.
Kapa‘a sits squarely in third place with a 3-2-1 record and seven points, also with two games remaining.
Lihu‘e drops to fourth place with a 2-5 record and four points while Kekaha is still seeking its first win at 0-6.
Kekaha will host Kapa‘a, Sunday at Hanapepe Stadium.
In the Junior Midget division, Hanapepe, forfeiting its match against Lihu‘e because of an insufficient number of players, which improved the Lihu‘e Patriots JM to a still perfect 7-0 record. The final deciding game comes Nov. 13 when the Patriots meet up with the Kapa‘a Eagles, currently in second place with a 5-1 record and 10 points, the Eagles’ only loss coming at the hands of the Patriots.
That game will be played at Vidinha Stadium starting at noon.
Koloa is in third place with a 2-4 record and four points with Kekaha (1-5) and Hanapepe (1-6) tied with two points each.
Avery Miguel fueled the Hanapepe Colts’ JPW win with two touchdowns, both runs, the first a 10-yarder in the first quarter and the second, a 28-yard scoot in the third quarter.
Kahekili Kelekoma added a touchdown, a 3-yard charge in the third period, and kicked two point-afters for the win.
Mark Daniel Mejia opened the scorebooks for Lihu‘e with a long 56-yard scamper to paydirt, capping its first possession before the Colts answered with three touchdowns.
Jance Medeiros found the end zone on a 4-yard charge with 41 seconds remaining in the game and Christian Manera ran in the point-after for the final math.
On Sunday, John Levinthol, an explosive player for the Eagles, was held to just a first-quarter score in the Eagles’ 18-0 win over Koloa.
Levinthol’s score came with 2:55 showing in the first quarter and the Eagles sewed up the game in the second quarter when Chaz Pacleb connected with Braxton Garma on a 3-yard touchdown pass.
Jacin Gamarra broke out for a 61-yard scoring run at the 8:31 mark for the final math.
With the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation season over, games get a little breathing room as the Mitey Mites open action starting at 8 a.m. with Koloa visiting the Hanapepe Colts.
That matchup will be followed by the critical JPW match kicking off at 10 a.m. and the JM following at noon.
Sunday’s action starts at 1 p.m. when Kapa‘a Eagles JPW visits Kekaha at Hanapepe Stadium. That game will be followed by the JM game starting at 3 p.m.
