LIHU‘E — Australian marathon swimmer Penny Palfrey’s attempt to swim from O‘ahu to Kaua‘i has been cut short once again by Portuguese man of war.
She set out on the 72-mile, open-ocean swim Tuesday from O‘ahu and was expected to arrive on Kaua‘i today or early tomorrow but had to stop the effort before reaching her destination.
Palfrey was expected to hold a press conference on O‘ahu this afternoon with her swim adviser, Steve Munatones.
Palfrey is a nominee for this year’s World Open Swimming Woman of the Year, and for the 2010 World Open Water Swimming Performance of the Year. She is a recent inductee to the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame.
“Simply put, Penny is a living legend in our world,” Munatones said.
