LIHU‘E — The 2010 Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation girls volleyball All-Star team was announced this week, with some familiar faces as honorees.
Player of the Year went to Waimea High School’s Jayme Jacinto, as the senior helped propel the Lady Menehune to another KIF championship and a consolation bracket victory at the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Div. II girls volleyball championship.
Waimea head coach Chad Delanoza was the Coach of the Year as his squad came within one set of back-to-back unbeaten KIF seasons, this time going 11-1 in league play and 13-2 overall.
Up front, Waimea’s Brandee Victorino made the All-Star lineup after a strong campaign at the net, both offensively and defensively.
Libero Vakeesha Lagazo gave the Lady Menehune their third All-Star, tied for most of any team in the conference.
In addition to Jacinto at the outside hitter position was the Kaua‘i Red Raiders’ duo of Malia Kagawa and Teal Basquez.
Kaua‘i (9-4) was the only team to notch a victory over Waimea this season, doing so in the final regular season match to force a second-round playoff.
The Raiders picked up a third All-Star with Shyanne Sadora, who earned her spot with stellar play at the net.
Jessilyn Artaho-Aki was chosen at the setter position, putting up numbers across the board throughout the year for the Kapa‘a Lady Warriors (4-8).
KIF All-Stars for air riflery have not yet been announced. They are expected this week, capping the fall All-Star teams.
