Sailing on a summer breeze
This Harry Nilsson song is dedicated to Andy as it seems to speak of him and a place like Kaua‘i:
Everybody’s talking at me.
I don’t hear a word they’re saying,
Only the echoes of my mind.
People stopping staring,
I can’t see their faces,
Only the shadows of their eyes.
I’m going where the sun keeps shining
Thru the pouring rain,
Going where the weather suits my clothes,
Backing off of the North East wind,
Sailing on summer breeze
And skipping over the ocean like a stone.
I’m going where the sun keeps shining
Thru’ the pouring rain,
Going where the weather suits my clothes,
Backing off of the North East wind,
Sailing on summer breeze
And skipping over the ocean like a stone.

Mahalo from Kapa‘a Middle School
The Kapa‘a Middle School Choir and ‘Ukulele Band members would like to thank all who came to support our Concert Fest fundraiser event this past weekend!
A special mahalo to the amazing staff at the Courtyard by Marriott at Kaua‘i Coconut Beach for their incredible partnership to make this event possible! A special thanks to Allan Domingo for helping set up the sound system and to Kaua‘i Music and Sound.
A huge mahalo to Ibaan Tent Rentals. To all of our vendors and donators for our live auction. To our wonderful entertainers: Moku and Kristi, 2nd Nature and the 3 T’s, Ka Ha O Na Opio, Paradox Lockdown, Loke Sasil, Nick’s Tahitian and Anson and Jimmy! To Ron Wiley for being a great auctioneer and to Mayor Bernard Carvalho for his encouragement and support for the music program at our school.
Special thanks to Uncle Dennis Fujimoto and The Garden Island newspaper, KQNG and Jason Fujinaka of FM97 for all of the great publicity. Thank you all for your partnership and support to make this event possible! Most of all, we appreciate the parents and family members who continue to be so supportive of the choir and ‘ukulele program at Kapa‘a Middle School! We will continue to be ambassadors of aloha at the Heritage Music Festival this coming March.

Make all bonds civil unions
I am happy that we will now have a governor who is not afraid to stand up for equality and will be willing to sign a civil-unions bill if it makes it to his desk.
While I have been a strong supporter for Hawai‘i’s HB 444, I feel the need to point out that my support for civil unions is only mediocre. In truth I find civil unions to be a form of what they tried in the South with blacks, “separate but equal.” It turned out to be a lot more separate than it was equal.
Putting us into our own little category of “civil unions” is a slap in the face that tells us we are not good or righteous enough for marriage. It puts us in a separate and substandard class.
In reality, I believe that the government should get out of the marriage business all together and not issue marriage licenses to anyone. Instead, all couples would be issued a civil-union license. Couples who felt the need for the sacrament of marriage could go to their church. It would be up to the individual churches whether or not to perform the marriage ceremony. This way all couples would be in the same boat. We would all have equal standing under the law and the issue of how the Bible defines marriage would be in the hands of the churches where it belongs.

Duplication of services is confusing
For many years, the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank has helped many of Kaua‘i’s hungry. Especially during these economically challenging times when the numbers of hungry are increasing, why was it necessary for the Hawai‘i Food Bank to emigrate to our shores and dilute the fund-raising and supply efforts of our long-standing local food bank?
I feel the addition of another food bank confuses potential donors and recipients. Was this duplication of effort necessary? If so, please explain and justify/clarify our public confusion about this matter.

Pardon the pun, but I find it comical that I have to watch and rely on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart to get the real (unbiased) news and watch MSNBC and FOX news for entertainment.
So much of the news media today is filled with bias and hypocrisy — MSNBC on the left, FOX News on the right. Their continual exaggeration and lies, coverage of events that really aren’t even pertinent to the problems we are facing today. It is a travesty to the rest of the news organizations and reporters whose true focus is to cover news, report what they see and not put their 2 cents in. Ever wonder why America is so “divided”?
FOX News takes the trophy though with Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly and the majority of their pundits whose consistent reference to principles is what’s even most comical. Enjoy the entertainment, folks!
