LIHU‘E — ‘Eiwa Street in Lihu‘e, between the Historic County Building and the Kaua‘i Museum, Lihu‘e Civic Center and Big Save Market, closes from 4:30 p.m. today through noon Dec. 5.
The closure is for the Kaua‘i Museum Christmas Craft Fair Dec. 3 and 4, and the annual Lights on Rice parade Dec. 3 at 6 p.m., a county press release states.
Several other road closures will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday before, during and after the parade: Ho‘olako, Hardy, Rice, Haleko Road, Kapule Highway and all feeder roads to Rice Street.
The parade will begin at Vidinha Stadium, head down Ho‘olako and Rice streets, and end on ‘Eiwa Street at the Historic County Building.
Motorists will need to seek alternate routes to get to their destinations in the area during the parade.
For the safety of pedestrians and vendors at the Kaua‘i Museum Christmas Craft Fair, there will be limited access through the ‘Eiwa Street entrance behind the museum from 4:30 p.m. today and noon Dec. 5.
No parking will be allowed in the stalls along the hedge on the ‘Eiwa Street side of the Lihu‘e Civic Center parking lot, and the stalls close to the Big Save loading dock.
In addition, no parking will be allowed in the parking lots of the Historic County Building and the State Building on Friday from 4:30 p.m. to midnight, to allow parade floats to park in these lots.
A private security company will be directing traffic in the area.
