Ralph Lanakila Artaho, 89, originally from Koloa, died Nov. 26, 2010, in Waimea, Hawai‘i. Born in the Philippines, he came to Hawai‘i at a young age later settling on Kaua‘i.
He raised his family there and worked as a Ranch Hand at Knudsen’s Po‘ipu Ranch, then later worked for Knudsen’s at Kahili Mt. Park in Maintenance and continued in that position when Knudsen’s sold to the Seventh-Day Adventist School. He later retired from his position with the Seventh Day Adventist School at Kahili Mt. Park.
He is survived by his wife, Emily Artaho of Waimea, Hawai‘i; daughters, Donna Higa of Kalaheo, Kaua‘i, Enola Gay (Wilbert) Lum of Honolulu, O‘ahu, Priscilla (Ralph) Yawata of Waimea, Hawai‘i; Patrice (Randall) Silva of Kalaheo, Kaua‘i, Ingrid (Latham) Keaweamahi of Anahola, Kaua‘i, Janell Artaho of ‘Oma‘o, Kaua‘i; son, Ralph (Sandi) Artaho II of Hanapepe, Kaua‘i; brother, Gregorio (Victoria) Artaho of Henderson, Nev.; sister, Felicidad (Faye) Perreira of Honolulu, O‘ahu; 21 grandchildren; Shane and Lisa Higa, Michelle Shigematsu-Tang, Maile Sawyer, Matthew Lum, Sarah, Ruth and Phillip Yawata, Harry and Kolohe Kapu, Randi-Lee Chism, Keilah Silva, Leah Rapoza, Pili’aloha Keaweamahi and Latham Keaweamahi Jr., Terence, Joelle, Elmo III and Joseph Tafoya, Cody and Cayden Artaho; twelve great-grandchildren; Kianai Higa, Destiny Shigematsu, Victoria Tang, Kaiya Cruz, Kae’o Cabato, Emily and Liam Chism, Kainalu Kapu, Nevaeh Arruda-Kapu, Noah and Isaac Wilson, Savannah Miranda; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcome at 9 a.m. for a 10 a.m. celebration of life service Dec. 11 at Koloa Missionary Church, with burial to follow at the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.

Gregory Lund
Gregory Richard Lund of Hanalei died at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital on Nov. 26, 2010, at age 52. Born in California on April 2, 1958, he was the owner of Lund Professional Painting.
He is survived by two daughters, Heidi Lund of Maryland, Holly Lund of Arizona, parents, Richard and Bettye Lund of California; brother, David (Nicole) Lund of California; one granddaughter, Emma Reese Lund-Rash of Maryland; two nephews, Griffin and Kyle Lund of California.
Regular church service on Sunday, Dec. 12, at 9:30 a.m. at Amazing Grace Church with a celebration of life and paddle-out to follow at 11:30 a.m. at Hanalei Pier. Reception to follow.

Gary Blaich
Gary Loomis Blaich, M.D. of Kilauea, died at home on Nov. 25, 2010. Born April 23, 1946 in Honolulu, he worked as a psychiatrist in the state mental-health system, and in private practice on Kaua‘i, for over 30 years. As president of the Kaua‘i Public Land Trust, he led the trust in conservation of over 175 acres of coastal lands on the island.
He was preceded in death by parents Alice and Norman Blaich, sister Diane Anderson and brother-in-law Cliff Bailey.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Beryl; daughters Mehana (Kilipaki) Vaughan and Meleana (Will) Estes; grandchildren, Pikomanawakupono and Pi‘ina‘emalina; mother-in-law Amelia (Jim Beatty) Bailey; brothers- and sisters-in-law Don Anderson and Jim, Fahy, Speedy (Pauline) and John (Karla) Bailey; nieces Britten, Lindsey and Brooke (Johnny) Bailey and Nicole (Bobby) Galchutt; and nephews Camm (Janene) Willener, Kaulana Bailey and Michael Coots.
A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m., with visitation from 9:30 a.m., at a location to be named later.
In lieu of wreaths, the family welcomes lei and donations to Gary’s favorite charities: the Kaua‘i Public Land Trust, the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank and the Honolulu Art Academy.
Charlotte Ayudan
Charlotte Leilani Medeiros Ayudan of Kalaheo, Kaua‘i died on Dec. 4, 2010, at her home in Kalaheo. Born on July 10, 1924, in Honolulu, she was a field worker for K.E.O.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcos B. Ayudan, and daughter, Melinda Marie Balocan.
She is survived by daughters Yvonne (Clyde) Hussey, Honolulu, Laverne Corpuz, ‘Ele‘ele, Tisha (Richy) Balocan Ayudan, Kalaheo; sons Wayne Buddie (Gail) Ayudan, Kekaha, Marcus Butchie (Darlene) Ayudan, West Jordan, Utah; caregiver Estralita Fernandez, Hanapepe; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
