LIHU‘E — Mary Daubert, the county’s public information officer, wanted to know if there were any Hawai‘i-themed items, Saturday.
Daubert was shopping for Mainland friends and relatives at the annual tent sale benefiting the Hawai‘i State Junior Golf Association held at the King Auto Center show lot.
While Hawai‘i-themed items were scarce, Daubert managed to find some golf caps from Hawai‘i-based tournaments and the HSJGA.
“Most of these caps were donated by Michelle Wie who is an alumni of Junior Golf,” said Mary Bea Porter-King, president of the HSJGA.
Lauren Yama, an HSJGA officer, said in addition to the caps, there was a wide variety of clothing contributed by Wie for the annual event.
“A lot of these clothes, she just wore once,” Yama said. “And, in addition to these, there are a lot of new clothes that she never wore.”
Daezsa Tomas, coming off a Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation girls basketball game Friday night, had her arms full of apparel and shoes while browsing through the tables offering a variety of memorabilia.
Tomas, a KIF golfer from Kaua‘i High School, was doing her Christmas shopping as well as getting some items for the upcoming KIF golf season which opens Feb. 26 at the Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course.
Ken Miyata, another KIF and Kaua‘i Junior Golfer, was busy inspecting some used golf clubs while helping Yama tally customers’ purchases.
Many of the items were on discounts starting from 50 percent and included numerous items from the U.S. Open Championships, including vests, shirts, T-shirts, jackets, umbrellas, hats, visors and a special pin for volunteers.
