WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka (D-Hawai‘i) issued the following statement Tuesday night:
“The President delivered a great State of the Union speech. I agree with the President it is our top opportunity and priority is to work together to create jobs and industry in our country. Instead of yelling at one another and “talking stink,” we need to work together to help our country. I hope if there is any good to come from the terrible tragedy in Arizona, it will be a renewed sense of working together.
“The President discussed responsibly ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. As you know I voted against the invasion of Iraq, and I am glad President Obama is fulfilling his commitment to responsibly bring our troops home from both wars. I will be on the Armed Services Committee again this year and I look forward to working with the President to bring our troops back to their families and end the massive spending on these two wars.”
