LIHU‘E — Vidinha Stadium received a major makeover over the last several months.
“I believe it’s the first time this facility has had a major renovation since it was built in the ‘70s,” county Parks and Recreation Director Lenny Rapozo said.
Kaua‘i Builders was awarded a $398,560 contract last May for improvements to the stadium, and the project was completed earlier this month, county officials said in a news release last week.
Among the improvements made to the stadium are: repair and paint damaged sections of bleachers; repair and paint restrooms, locker rooms and announcer’s booth; replace deteriorated railings; and paint entire exterior of the stadium.
Also under way is a separate project for the lighting retrofit of Vidinha Stadium and four other county facilities including: Hanapepe Stadium; Isenberg Park and Peter Rayno Park softball fields; and the Lihu‘e County Park tennis court.
“This is a very busy year for the Parks Department. We currently have a number of projects that are at various stages of construction,” said Rapozo. “In addition, we plan to present a draft master plan at a series of public information meetings and ask for the public’s input.”
The master plan will serve to guide the department’s future programs and improvements throughout its system of parks.
More information on the public information meetings will be forthcoming, the release states.
Included on the list of ongoing parks’ projects are: the installation of playground equipment at Puhi and ‘Oma‘o parks; improvements to the comfort stations at Isenberg and Peter Rayno parks; installation of basketball courts at ‘Ele‘ele Nani and Hanapepe Cliffside parks; and new ADA compliant announcer’s booths at Isenberg and Kalawai parks.
