LIHU‘E — The ‘Bows built up a 22-point first-half lead and held on for a 62-52 win over Fresno State, Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center on O‘ahu.
Four Warriors finished in double figures with both Bill Amis and Vander Joaquim notching double-doubles. Amis went for 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Joaquim had 13 points and 10 boards.
Joaquim’s 13 were a team-high, while Joston Thomas and Bo Barnes scored 12 points apiece. Barnes was 4-of-7 from three-point range.
Zane Johnson had nine points, all of them also coming on 3-pointers. He was 3-of-8 from behind the arc while pulling down five rebounds and dishing out four assists.
Hiram Thompson scored just two points but had five assists.
Two-sport star Jeremiah Ostrowski had three points in 18 minutes of action.
The Warriors shot 52 percent from the floor in the first half and built a 41-21 lead at halftime. They scorched the net with a 7-of-10 showing from downtown in the opening 20 minutes.
The win makes two in a row for Hawai‘i (11-8, 2-5 WAC), after dropping its first five conference games.
Fresno State (7-10, 3-4 WAC) was led by Garrett Johnson’s 14 points and Nedeljko Golubovic’s 13.
After shooting just 29 percent in the first half (10 for 34), the Bulldogs got back into the game with a 46 percent (12-of-26) second half.
The ’Bows will look to make it three straight when they host San Jose State on Saturday, followed by league-leading Utah State on Jan. 29.
