LIHU‘E — Anya Littlefield broke three Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation swim records in three events she swam in, Saturday at the KIF qualifying meet at the Kauai High School pool.
This feat duplicated her swim of last week when she bettered three KIF records, but unlike last week, Littlefield, a junior at Kapa‘a High School, picked up a state auto time standard in one event and two consideration time standards.
“Anya went three-for-three in getting new records,” said Billy Brown, coach for Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics and a KIF swim official. “She got a record in the 100 Back which she never had before, and achieved one automatic cut with two consideration cuts.”
Last week, Littlefield finished with three state auto time standards which brings her total to four auto times and two consideration swims.
The only other KIF individual swimmer to have a consideration swim is Kanoa Nartatez of Kapa‘a.
However, Littlefield did not stop at her individual qualifying as she helped the Warrior relay teams earn two state consideration time standards in the Girls Medley Relay and the Girls 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.
Joining Littlefield on the Girls 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team, Kaitlyn Jarry, Lana Vali and Maluhia Stark-Kinimaka stopped the clock in first place at 4:05.78, bettering its seeded time of 4:21.02 and the state consideration standard of 4:15.99.
Littlefield swam the Butterfly phase of the Girls Medley Relay with Vali opening, Tambrina Fairbanks and Stark-Kinimaka anchoring to stop the clock in first place at 2:06.68, bettering its seeded time by .09 second and the state consideration of 2:07.27.
Individually, Littlefield’s biggest feat was the consideration swim in the 100 Yard Backstroke where she stopped the clock at 1:04.80, falling short of the state auto time by just .13 second. That swim also bested the KIF record swim set by Emma Rausch on Jan. 24, 2009 of 1:04.93.
A first finish 2:02.19 earned Littlefield her only state auto time standard in the Girls 200 Yard Freestyle event where she bettered the KIF record set by herself on Jan. 31, 2009 at 2:03.52. The auto time standard is 2:02.63.
Littlefield came close to another auto time standard in the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle event where she stopped the clock in first place at 56.89 for a consideration time standard. That swim fell short of the state auto time (56.31) by just .58 second.
Rachel Meek, a Kapa‘a junior, had a notable swim in the Girls 200 Yard Individual Medley where she came in first at 2:54.11, bettering her seeded time of 3:05.40, but falling short of the state consideration (2:24.25).
Waimea High School swimmers Emily Iannucci, Kiele Young and Zena McDougall had notable swims in the Girls 50 Yard Freestyle.
All three Menehune swimmers had sizable improvements, Iannucci bettering her 42.66 seeded time with a 40.53 swim, Young stopping the clock at 40.95 over her seeded 45.55, and McDougall bettering her 47.44 seed with a 44.92 swim.
Young also posted a nice improvement in her Girls 100 Yard Freestyle swim, touching at 1:43.54 over her seeded 1:56.73.
Bailey O’Sullivan, a Waimea sophomore, also posted a nice improvement in the Girls 100 Yard Butterfly with a 1:37.48 swim over her 1:40.96 seed.
Kaleigh Rutt, a Kaua‘i High School sophomore, also posted a nice swim in the Girls 100 Yard Freestyle, touching at 1:08.07 over her seeded time of 1:11.79.
Rutt also showed strong in the Girls 500 Yard Freestyle, touching in second at 6:43.27, a better than 15-second improvement over her seeded 6:58.33.
Tyler Keith and Quinn Hannah-White, both freshmen at Island School, showed strong in the Boys 500 Yard Freestyle event with first and second finishes, respectively.
Keith touched at 5:31.37, bettering his seeded time of 5:44.99 and Hannah-White finished at 5:33.29, bettering his seeded swim of 5:52.10.
