WAILUA — Kryptonite came close, but the Bulls are still undefeated in the Kaua‘i Mens Soccer Association, Sunday at the Weinberg Sports Park.
The Kryptonite and the Bulls both battled through a first half slugfest, but in the second half, the Bulls turned towards their passing game to keep control of the ball before finally finding the net on three goals for a 3-0 edge over Kryptonite.
Kryptonite found a window early in the second half when Dan Finer’s scoring opportunity in close range of the goalmouth lifted past the crossbar, igniting the Bulls’ offensive showing.
The Bulls responded with goals from Ikaika Fuerte, Christian Marstan and Dan Prigge for the win.
The Afterburners, playing in the nightcap, capitalized on the Kryptonite loss to strengthen their hold on second place with a 3-0 win over Canefire.
Tyren Sakuda found the net late in the first half to give the Afterburners a 1-0 bulge at the half.
Coming back onto the field, the Afterburners continued to exert offensive pressure and finished with scores from Cory Rita and Corey Nemeth.
That sets the stage for Sunday’s opener when the Afterburners go up against Kryptonite in a battle for third place starting at 2 p.m. at the Weinberg Sports Park.
The undefeated Bulls will then take on Canefire in the 4 p.m. matchup.
There is no admission to view the competition, and Gary Hudson of the KMSA invites the public, especially the younger players, to watch the skills and soccer finesse of the teams during these final weeks of play.
