AlohaCare is seeking applicants for its annual AlohaCare Believes in Me Scholarship program, according to a press release. The program provides low-income students with funds to attend the University of Hawai‘i and Hawai‘i community colleges. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $2,500 per student. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2011.
“Each year, we hear so many stories about students who would not have been able to get their college degree without financial aid,” said John McComas, chief executive officer of AlohaCare, in a press release. “Our scholarship program was developed to help these students attain a higher education, which will eventually lead to a better future and quality of life.”
The criteria for AlohaCare’s scholarship award are:
• Must be a Hawai‘i resident
• Must be admitted to any campus within the University of Hawai‘i system
• Enrolled as a full or part-time classified graduate or undergraduate student
• Able to demonstrate financial need
To help address the health care shortage in rural areas, preferences will be given to students from neighbor islands, and/or graduates from neighbor island high schools. Special consideration will also be given to students pursuing studies in healthcare or health-related fields.
