LIHU‘E — The Raider Wahine are moving on to the final four.
A 3-0 victory over Honoka‘a keeps the Kaua‘i High School girls soccer squad unbeaten on the season and headed into today’s semifinal round of the JN Automotive Group/HHSAA Girls Soccer Division II State Championships.
Alyssa “Malu” Vegas scored two goals for No. 3 seed Kaua‘i (7-0-1), the first opening the scorebooks in the 18th minute of play.
Alexa Tamashiro scored in the 37th minute to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead at halftime. Vegas then scored the clincher in the 52nd minute.
Honoka‘a (7-6-2) had advanced out of the first round with a 3-0 win over Radford on Wednesday, but could not keep its momentum going against the fierce Kaua‘i squad.
The Raiders will now face Kamehameha-Big Island today with a spot in Saturday’s championship match on the line.
Kamehameha (10-2-4) outlasted No. 2 seed Leilehua with a shootout victory after a pair of scoreless overtime sessions, Thursday. Sharayah Ah Chong, Haunani Tomas and Rachel Robinson scored in the penalty-kick shootout for the 1-0 (3-1) win.
No. 1 seed Hawai‘i Prep (10-2-1) survived a scare with a 1-0 win over Makua Lani (5-10) as Hannah Unger scored early in the second half (42’), just enough for the top team to advance.
It will take on surprising Mid-Pacific (5-9), which won another 1-0 contest against No. 4 seed Seabury Hall (8-8-1). Julie Khil’s score in the 55th minute proved to be the game-winner as Mid-Pac hopes to continue its improbable run today against D-II’s top team.
Both semifinal matchups are scheduled for 3 p.m., with the HPA-Mid-Pac contest played at the Waipio Complex’s Field 11.
The Kaua‘i-Kamehameha game will be at Field 12.
