KAPA‘A — A complaint from a Kapa‘a resident Friday prompted an inspection into tree trimming at a local resort.
On Friday morning or early afternoon, the man called The Garden Island and the county engineering office to complain that employees of the Kaua‘i Coast Resort at the Beachboy had removed limbs from trees on a neighboring beach owned by the county.
The man, who asked to remain unidentified, contends the resort had “limbed” the trees to improve its beachfront views.
County spokeswoman Mary Daubert said the county’s preliminary inspection of the tree trimming found no violations. However, a more detailed inspection is planned for sometime next week.
“We’ve been told that the resort has suspended tree trimming activities,” Daubert said in an e-mail.
She added that a county surveyor went to the resort on Friday afternoon to check the exact location of the tree trimming.
The resort is located at 4-484 Kuhio Highway in Kapa‘a.
Kaua‘i Coast Resort General Manager Troy Spalding could not be reached for comment.
