Kiarra, the younger sister of Waimea High School basketball standouts Nicole and Brandon Palacio, topped the scoring in Kaulupono’s 28-27 loss to the Westside Girls at the county’s Girls 13 and Under Winter Basketball league.
Shai-Anne Abigania finished with a game-high 17 points to lead the Kaua‘i Lady Ballers to its 43-22 win over the Kamikaze in the opener of the Saturday double-header.
Abigania was joined by Kunani Tuttle, the younger sister of former Kapa‘a High School multi-sport student athlete Tori Tuttle, who pocketed eight points. Ariel Cummings rounded out the scoring leaders with five points for the Kaua‘i Lady Ballers.
Macy Tamura topped the Kamikaze effort with seven points followed by Kalia Shimabukuro dropping five points and Chyna Hanano adding four points.
Tiana Apilado shared the lead with Alyssa Miyamoto in the Westside Girls’ edge over Kaulupono, both girls marking eight points apiece followed by Brandee Burton adding six marks.
Following Kiarra, Kaulupono got six points from Melia Okura, its low post, and four points from Jasmine Santella.
Kaulupono opens the action Wednesday when it goes up against the Team Lihu‘e Ladies starting at 6 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
The Westside Girls tangle with the Kaua‘i Lady Ballers in the 7 p.m. tipoff.
