Juana “Mama Jane” Hilario of Kilauea died Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Garden Isle Health Care at age 88. Born Aug. 29, 1922, in the Philippines, she retired from the Princeville Hotel.
She was preceded in death by husband Vincente Hilario; daughter Augustina “Tinay” (Gary) Ebinger; sons Rudy Viquelia and Anthony “Tony” Viquelia; sister Mary Simbre.
She is survived by sons Val “Tetang” (Mildred Dunn) Hobayan, Albert “Betoy” (Sandy) Hobayan, Vincent (Crystal Ono) Hilario and Salvin (Helene Kaui) Hilario; daughters Josephine “Jo” “Bebang” (Wendall) Nunes, Anita (Robert) Salvador and Geraldine “Gerri” (Eliseo) Bolosan; hanai children Glenn (Karen) Lardizabal, Cisco Peru and Jadelyn (Larry) Rosa; sister Folidad (Beco) Fernandez; grandchildren Laurie (Clay Jr.) Kelekoma, Suzanne Ebinger, Renwick (Renee) Hobayan, Markham Hobayan, Leimoni Simpson, Sara (Keith) Kimball, Stacey (Robin Chinen) Salvador, Jason Salvador, Jonathan (Bernadette) Salvador, Johnny Hobayan, Chad Hobayan, Derek Visitation, Tonya Hobayan, Robert Salvador Jr. Richard Salvador, Sheri Ann (Kosha) Satvat, Conrad (Kim) Viguelia, Dawn (Eli) Eddings, Vicky (Elix) Villafuerter, Randall (Alegna Cracaft) Bolosan, Alicia (David Engelman) Bolosan, Vincente Hilario, Destiny Hilario, Luke Hilario, Napuanani Hilario, Saul Rosa, Anolani Rosa, Leimomi Rosa, Lynn (Jesse) Goo, Kristalyn (Kunane Mersberg) Asuncion, Olena (Jason) Molina; 33 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, April 2, at St. Sylvester’s Catholic Church in Kilauea. Visitation with the family will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. followed by the eulogy at 9:45 a.m. Mass will be held at 10 a.m. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Borthwick Mortuary & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Hanako Lapilio
Hanako Lapilio of Anahola died at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital on March 22, 2011 at the age of 80. She was born on March 4, 1931 in Yokohama, Japan and was a dedicated homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lapilio.
She is survived by her children, Frederick (Maileen) Lapilio, Mark (Ruby) Lapilio, Ramona Lapilio, Joanne (Samuel) Keopuhiwa; sisters, Yoshie of Kanagawa, Japan, Hiroko of Tokyo, Japan; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery Pavillion in Hanapepe with visitation from 10 a.m. and services celebrated at 11 a.m.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Lapilio family with Arrangements.
Alice Hanna
Alice Akimi Hanna of Huntington Beach, Calif. died March 23, 2011 at home at the age of 84. Born November 25, 1926 in Kaumakani, Kaua‘i.
She was preceded in death by her parents Yujiro and Sekiyo Nakano; brothers Kiyoto and Takuichi Nakano; sister Shigemi Tomita.
She is survived by her husband James A. Hanna; son James B. (Colleen) Hanna; daughters, Lisa Hanna, Ren (Linda) Hanami; sister Janet Itsuko Senaha; one grandson.
A private memorial will be held at her home on April 3, 2011. In lieu of flowers Alice would have preferred donations made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org/888-733-6741).
Accu-Care Cremation Center assisted the Hanna family with the arrangements.
Ingrid Davis
Ingrid L. Davis of Concord, New Hampshire and Kalaheo, died on March 28, 2011 at her home in Kalaheo at the age of 59. Born on March 8, 1952, in Concord, N.H., she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband Steven L. Davis of Kalaheo; sons Benjamin Mattice (Genine) of Claremont, New Hampshire and Matthew Mattice (Jessica) of Apex, North Carolina; step-son Kyle Davis of Concord, N.H.; step-daughter Jessica Davis (Murray) of Perth, Australia; eight grandchildren; father Fred Moses of Venice, Fla.; step-mother Estelle Moses of Venice, Fla.; brother Brent Moses (Wendy) of Chichester, N.H.; sisters Brenda Vintinner (John) of Concord, N.H. and Leisa Gagne (Bob) of Chichester, N.H.; numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation and service officiated by Rev. Derrick Vander Meullen has been scheduled from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel; burial to follow at the Lihu‘e Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested. In lieu of flowers and monetary offering, family requests donations be made to Kaua‘i Hospice in memory of Ingrid L. Davis.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Homer Jopling
Homer Augustus Jopling, formerly of Kapa‘a and Sun Village in Lihu‘e, died January 15, 2011 in Miami, Florida. Born March 8, 1924 in New Jersey, he retired as an educator for Florida’s Secondary School and Junior College systems.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Jopling; brother Fred Joplin.
He is survived by his sons Doug Jopling, Ken (Dennis Mendonça) Jopling of Kaua‘i, Gary (Carmen) Jopling of Miami; sisters-in-law Naomi Joplin of Texas, Claire Cory of Florida; daughter-in-law Grace Jopling of California; nieces Lynn (Bob) Platt of California, Joan (Bob) Hamstra, Diane (Joe Dudash) Cory of Florida, Ruth (Craig) Sahli of Oklahoma; nephew Ray Joplin of California; grandchildren Jason, Jade, Jeffrey, Jonathan, Justin, Jasmine; great-grandchildren Austin, Henry, Arthur.
Friends and Ohana will gather in Celebration of his Life at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 2 at Riversong Sanctuary in Kapa‘a. Bring food to share around an evening bonfire.
