Registration for the Bess Route Foundation Chad Owens All-Star Football Camp will take place Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Kukui Grove Center exhibition area fronting the Deja Vu store.
Registration will also take place Saturday at the Kukui Grove stage area from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the Sears store.
This year, Chad Owens of the Canadian Football League Toronto Argonauts has teamed up with Davone Bess, former wide receiver for the University of Hawai‘i and currently of the Miami Dolphins.
Bess is also the founder of the Bess Route Foundation, host of this year’s All-Star Football Camp.
The camp will be held May 14 at Vidinha Stadium from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is free to youth from ages 7 to 17. The camp also includes a camp t-shirt, lunch and dinner.
There will be two sessions for the camp: one for youth ages 7 to 12 and the other for youth ages 13 to 17.
Because the camp is free, each session will be limited to 150 participants and pre-registration is highly recommended. Late and walk-in registrations will be accepted based on space availability.
“This is an awesome event for our Kaua‘i youth as this opportunity for a free football camp is very rare,” said Teddy Arroyo, event coordinator, in a release. “Football camps range anywhere from $200 to $300, and more.”
Owens will be instructing the camp along with 14 of his affiliates, and Kaua‘i’s aspiring football players will be given the opportunity to engage in hands-on techniques and fundamentals of the game of football with guidance from experienced CFL, National Football League and college athletes.
