LIHU‘E — The No. 14/17 University of Hawai‘i softball team (16-4) defeated Tokyo Women’s College of Physical Education, 1-0 in an exhibition game on Thursday night, states a release from the UH athletic department. Pitcher Jenna Rodriguez went the distance, tossing a three-hit shutout at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Rodriguez struck out eight batters and walked just one in the complete game win.
The ‘Bows posted one run in the bottom of the first inning that held up for the victory. Tara Anguiano led off with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jasey Jensen. Anguiano then scooted to third on a ground out to the pitcher by Jazmine Zamora.
A walk to Rodriguez put runners at the corners for Jocelyn Enrique, who came through with a single through the right side of the infield to drive in Anguiano from third.
Hawai‘i catcher Enrique led UH at the plate, going 2 for 3 with the RBI.
TWCPE starter Kazumi Hirahara also threw a complete game, allowing one run on five hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.
Sixteen Rainbow Wahine got to play in the exhibition game, including Kaua‘i High School graduate Jori Jasper, who went 0 for 1. The game will not count towards their regular season record or individual statistics.
