LIHU‘E — Fun Factory and San Lorenzo Bikinis are expanding on Kaua‘i. The two stores plan to open their doors to shoppers at Kukui Grove Center later this year.
Fun Factory, a family gaming and entertainment center, will mark its return to the Lihu‘e mall after 10 years, states a news release from Gilbert & Associates.
“I remember Fun Factory from the days when I was a kid,” said a Kukui Grove security guard. “Then it became Paradise Fun, then Dollar Plus, and now it comes full circle.”
Fun Factory will fill the space formerly occupied by Dollar Plus near Orange Grove Frozen Yogurt and McDonald’s.
“We’re excited to return to the Kukui Grove Center and launch our Token Cards program on Kaua‘i,” said Steven Lau, executive vice president and chief financial officer, in the release. “The Token Cards program offers Gold and VIP cards where players can get discounts and free games.”
“It’s only logical for Fun Factory to return,” a shopper said Monday. “Kukui Grove attracts a lot of young people — especially on Friday nights with its Jam Room.”
The Fun Factory at Kukui Grove will be in addition to the outlet they operate at the Waipouli Shopping Center near Foodland, according to Lau.
San Lorenzo Bikinis will be located between Starbucks and Genki Sushi at Kukui Grove.
The store will offer swimwear and clothing, delivering a wide range of choices of mix and match, buy separates and custom orders, the release states.
Originating in Peru, San Lorenzo Bikinis expanded to Brazil before making its way to Hawai‘i.
“Kukui Grove is one of the best spots for shopping on Kaua‘i, so we’re excited to be opening here this spring,” said owner Jonathan Figueroa in the release. “We’ve been getting orders from all over the island, so we’re happy to be adding more stores.”
Wade Lord, vice president of investment and consulting services at CBRE, said in addition to these two new stores, Kukui Grove Center has renewed four tenant leases in the past two month.
“We’re grateful to our current tenants and their commitment to Kukui Grove,” Lord said in the release. “We are also very encouraged by the addition of new retailers such as Fun Factory and San Lorenzo Bikinis and the interest shown by other prospective tenants who are looking at entering the Kaua‘i marketplace for the first time. This is a positive sign for our business and helps to offset the loss of Borders. We expect this interest will lead to securing new tenants as we move forward in 2011.”
Kukui Grove Center showcases more than 60 shops and restaurants in an open-air atmosphere set on almost 50 acres in Lihu‘e.
