LIHU‘E — The girls earned consideration distances in three of five field events, and the boys earned three consideration distances in two of five events, Thursday at Vidinha Stadium.
Uila Langi of Kaua‘i High School finished first in the Girls Shot Put on a placement of 33’04.00, getting past the 32’00.25 consideration distance.
Kristle Henry was just an inch ahead of fellow Red Raider Kelsey Cadiente on her leap of 15’05.00 in the Girls Long Jump, that first finish jump getting an inch ahead of the consideration distance of 15’04.00.
In that event, Kapa‘a High School freshman Kekai Gonsalves tied with fellow Warrior Kaylee Silva on leaps of 15’00.00, three inches ahead of Kaua‘i’s Kainoa Naihe (14’09.00).
Kaua‘i’s Reanna Javinar rounded out the third consideration distance with a first finish leap of 34’02.00 in the Girls Triple Jump, getting past the consideration standard of 32’06.75 but falling just three inches short of the auto standard of 34’05.75.
Gonsalves finished second in that event on a leap of 30’09.00 with fellow Warrior Shannon Paleka getting third at 28’09.00.
Kawehi Louis-Diamond had never participated in the field events until Thursday’s Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation qualifying meet.
She took on the Girls High Jump, and after tying with Silva at 4’08.00, broke the tie at 4’09.00, just an inch short of the consideration height of 4’10.00.
Bronte Acosta of Waimea topped the Girls Discus Throw on a toss of 93’02.00, coming eight inches short of the consideration distance of 94’04. Acosta finished second to Langi in the Girls Shot Put on a 26’08.00 placement.
Kapa‘a’s Kevin Marshall Adkisson’s first place in the the Boys Shot Put of 45’01.25 soared past the consideration distance of 43’05.25.
Adkisson went on to top the Boys Discus on a toss of 144’10.00 followed by Kaua‘i’s Michael Kahockapu-Cruz at 138’09.00. Both first and second placements surpassed the consideration standard of 136’01.
Kapa‘a’s David Kanoho tied with fellow Warrior Treston Brede at 5’06.00 in the Boys High Jump. He also topped the Boys Triple Jump on a leap of 36’07.00, almost four feet greater than Waimea’s Bryle Rivera (32’02.00) and Eli Aviguetero (31’02.00).
Waimea’s Hunter Evans topped the Boys Long Jump at 17’05.50 followed by Kapa‘a’s Trevor Calapatia (17’02.00) and Kanoho (16’08.00).
The next KIF qualifying meet will be held March 24 starting at 4:30 p.m.
