WAILUA — Pono Tokioka fired a three-over par 75 to lead the Kaua‘i High School boys team to its second straight first place finish, Saturday.
Taylor Viquelia led the girls’ field for Kaua‘i High School with an 84 at the second Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation golf match at the Wailua Golf Course.
However, with Kelli Oride, its third player, on an off-island tour, the Kaua‘i girls could not field a team total.
Daezsa Tomas took a bad hole at the No. 9 when her high altitude drive was played with by the wind.
Approaching the No. 9, Tomas was at three-over, but tumbled after toughing it out at the hole.
Mariah Paiste set the pace for Waimea, finishing with a 93, and Kawena Warren ended with a 112.
Kapa‘a’s Meleane Moala played the course, but did not post a score.
The wind that toyed with Tomas’ ball also teased the Tokioka threesome as all the golfers fired their second shot off the No. 9 tee from the opposite fairway.
Following Tokioka, Braeden Robley (78), Kai Adachi (80), and Reyn Morioka (83) completed the 316 team scoring for Kaua‘i.
Other Red Raiders on the course included Kenneth Chun (100), Logan Keeler (111) and Vance Tokita (103).
Kenji Miyata, favoring the rightside coming up the No. 9, finished with a 79 to lead the Kapa‘a boys to a 336 second place.
Similarly, senior Justin Uegawa came up the rightside, but overshot the No. 9 green. But he recovered to finish at 83 as the No. 2 scorer for Kapa‘a.
Weston Moniz, top shooter last week, dropped to a tie for No. 3 at 87 with Jordan Guerrero, Moniz coming home from O‘ahu where he was playing pre-season volleyball, his father said.
Following the KIF golf match, Moniz was back on the plane to rejoin his volleyball teammates.
Other Warriors on the course were Anthony Aiwohi (100), Mitchell Alves (124), Sage Lane (89), Daniel Sanchez (135) and Kawika Wellington (96).
Ka‘imi Miyashiro broke 90 for the Waimea boys, carding an 88 to lead the Menehune to a 391 third place finish.
Camden Nakashima finished with a 99 followed by the Callejo brothers, Derek (101) and Clifton (103) to round out the team scorers.
Other Menehune on the course included Vinda Carineo (101), Kaiea Daligdig (124), Nahe Manoi-Resinto (110) and Ken Morikawa (116).
Daniel Miller was the sole Island School golfer, carding a 93.
The KIF golf field takes to the Kiahuna Golf Course on Saturday with the first group teeing off at 11:30 a.m.
