Congratulations to Ciera Dela Cruz-Labanon of Waimea Canyon Middle School (career day next Wednesday) on correctly spelling “angelic” to earn third place (alternate) at the Kaua‘i Area Complex Spelling Bee. Her grandma said Ciera celebrated her birthday at the Waimea Town Celebration last Friday and now has a chance to go to O‘ahu for the state spelling bee.
Congratulations to both Sydney Brady and Asia Vito on being able to represent Kaua‘i at the state bee!
Hats off to Brent Mizutani on coordinating a great event and standing in for Coach Bill Arakaki, who had to attend a Board of Education meeting.
JK served as the “instant replay” video man, and Lisa McDonald (remember her from the Kaua‘i District Science Fair?) had the backup video.
Tom Shigemoto was able to get the tail end of the bee after his Boy Scout meeting, and mahalo to Debra Badua for all the hospitality despite all the stormy weather, outside.
OK, time to go check out coach Glenn Mickens and the opening of the KIF baseball at Ron Martin field. “Anahola” Joel Pahukula and Manny Henriques should be there, too.
